Floral Demonstrations at the Prince of Wales Hospice Garden Party

Picture sitting down to a special meal in a high-end restaurant, or attending a wedding in any venue. Think about Mother’s Day, thank you gifts, birthdays, or parties. We bet, however you imagined those various scenarios, they all had one thing in common:

They brighten a room, brighten a day, and brighten up the saddest face with a smile.

Whatever the occasion, or even just because, flowers are the special ingredient that add a touch of magic. From our florist shop in Pontefract we do our best to bring a bit of floral magic every day to the Pontefract community we’re proud to be part of.

Customers and friends who know us (and after 25 years in the florist business there are quite a few of them) are never surprised to see us at local events, joining in to support or help raise funds for the community close to our hearts.

We were thrilled to be able to do a bit to support one of our favourite charities this week – The Prince of Wales Hospice. They do such wonderful work to help and comfort people with serious illnesses, and their families, but they couldn’t do it without the support of the community they serve.

The 2015 Hospice Garden Party

The annual garden party is always a marvellous day out for all the family, with loads to do at the various stalls including indulging in cake and hot or cold refreshments.

Michelle did a floral demonstration, showing some of the special techniques we use to create our arrangements and bouquets. The demonstrations are a great way to learn bits and pieces you can use at home to get the most out of floral gifts, or even flowers cut from your own garden. Lots of people were surprised by how easily you can make very ordinary bunches of flowers look amazing when you know a few professional secrets. But sshh, don’t tell anyone. Those secrets are strictly between us, okay?

Garden partygoers also had the chance to win and take home floral arrangements Michelle created in the demonstration, as there was a raffle to help raise funds for the hospice. It’s always a popular raffle as it’s a brilliant way to get a professional flower arrangement at a bargain price – and help such a good cause all at the same time. Michelles flowers raised £287.50 altogether, with the plant stall and the raffle for Michelle’s demonstration

The entire day was a tremendous success and, as always, we were delighted to give back a bit of the care that the hospice always gives to all of us.
